Adrian helmet chalk markings

I own only one Adrian Infantry helmet, and was wondering if anyone could help answer a few questions.

The helmet looks factory painted to me, and not brush painted as I've seen on many later helmets. Can the colour of the paint be used as an indicator of roughly when the helmet was made? My overall impression is that earlier helmets were brush painted over later in the war, because a lot of them have the earlier one piece liner. The liner in this one is the later two piece version.

The one puzzling thing is the chalk marks inside the helmet shell. The writing looks like what might be a number along with a few scribbles, and is hard to read because I don't want to damage the liner. Would these marks have been chalked in during manufacturing?

One last picture with rivet details. I've noticed that some helmets have rivets one on top of the other, while these are offset. Is this a maker variant or just random?
