Looks like only the shakos have chinstraps and cocardes.

Is this an image from the photo series taken when some of the large wooden shipping crates were being opened in front of the ?U.S. Treasury Building? I saw it the other day, posted on another forum.

It shows that helmets were shipped with spikes disassembled (on M15 models), and reveals this exact situation that enabled the wrong assembly of Jzp spikes, Kurassier spikes, mixed up with Infantry spikes on so many of these War Bonds helmets.

My guess is also a stateside photo. Piles of M15s, nicely dressed civilians. I've seen other similar photos over the years. As I've said, I believe the war bond helmets are the main source of M15s available today.

I wouldn't call it a waste. If those helmets hadn't been shipped to the States, they could very well have been scrapped in Europe rather than kept as souvenirs in the US. As I said, this is the motherlode of M15s available today.
