All Original???

The seller claims the helmet is all original and there is no reproduction parts on the helmet, and that his "Great Uncle" brought it home. Well I guess his Great Uncle must have made a stop in India to pick up the repro front plate...

I don't know if it's just me, but there's NO way I ever believe anyone on Ebay who makes the claim that a family member brought it home. It's just a weak gimick used to sell I guess.

In all fairness though, the shell does look to be original....

Once you know, you can spot those Indian wappen from a mile off. Such sloppy detail, such poor definition.

It's when the Indian fakers start turning out beautifully crisp wappen that I will become nervous...

You see a lot of this kind of dishonesty in the samurai sword market as well. The recent flood of fake swords from China has spawned a host of descriptions similar to that above such as "vet bring back", "vet acquired", "been in my family for many years", "brought back by my _______" father, grandfather, uncle, fill in the blank. All describing swords that are obvious modern fakes from China. Unfortunately, the Chinese fakes are getting better and better, to the point where some require close scrutiny. I assume the same will occur in the spiked helmet world. It's sad, but not surprising to see the depths people lower themselves to in the name of greed.
