An Imperial Bavarian Landespolizei Tunic

Gents,

I thought I would show an Imperial Bavarian Landespolizei Tunic that continued to be worn until circa 1936. This wool twill tunic is made in dark green (Stahlgrunem) with a black collar and narrow green collar tabs. It was worn with black trousers or breeches. It has smooth (glatt) white metal buttons throughout with Bavarian Police NCO shoulder boards. Later versions of this uniform had black collar and cuffs but this early version did not. Notice this version of the tunic has French cuffs rendered in the same Stahlgrunem colored cloth.

This is the later Weimar Republic period version of this LAPO uniform worn while Bavaria was the Freistaat Bayern. During the time of the Weimar Republic the Bavarian Chief of Police held a Colonel rank. This tunic is for a Major as can be seen from the shoulder boards. Notice this high ranking tunic now has the black color collar and cuffs unlike the French cuffs on the Konigreich Bayern tunic shown above.

Thank you for the kudos.

The Tschako could be worn with the Bavarian cockade or the Nationale depending upon the time period. The belts and buckles also changed over time but the roller buckle was worn on both brown and black belts. The pants also changed over time from green to black.

A long serving Bavarian Police uniform with period changes.

Thanks Alan. And, here is the last iteration of this uniform showing a NS eagle above the right chest pocket. These men were mostly transferred to the Wehrmacht in 1935-36 to fill out new military slots. Notice the post 1936 belt buckle replaces the D ring roller buckle that was worn by both Officers and NCOs previously. This is a Landespolizei NCO as indicated by his shoulder straps and his Tresse shown on his cuffs. These cuff rings were called "Piston Rings" in German slang and were also worn on their greatcoats. Also, notice the 1935 dated peaked cap with the early Model 1934 Police eagle and laurel leaf wreath, The head shot shows this cap with Army (HEER) insignia and the new Police Soldier is still wearing his Police tunic and insignia.

After the two year "wear out period" all personnel were outfitted in their new post-1936 period Military or Police uniforms.
