An unknown German feldgrau officer uniform

Dear members of the forum,

A friend of mine has his uniform in his collection.
At the beginning, I thought it was a Fedlrock for an officer of the Bavarian Leib Regiment with a modified collar ( unfortunatly, the shoulderboards have been removed).
After a quick check I have now a doubt since in my books, it appears that for the Bavarian Leib regiment, the cuff litzens should be 2 horizontal litzens.
On this tunic, it is 3 vertical Litzens....
I am now a bit confused...
I would appreciate any support.

Thanks a lot

That’s a Bavarian button and does appear to be a Bavarian Leib Infantry Officer’s. Missing not only the shoulder boards but also the collar tabs. The Leib regiment was the only Bavarian infantry regiment to wear silver buttons and the ones on this tunic appear silber to me.

If you could talk an insignia collector out of the correct pair of tabs and officer boards this tunic would display well.

Yes, may have a button or 2 crossed, left or right facing, or upside down but thats often seen. I imagine tailors often made mistakes. Plus, whomever may have replaced a button, whether it was during the war or after.

The collar lining also has an interesting look. Thanks for posting the pictures (y)
