So gents, original or fake? (I've made up my mind already :) )

:D Ron

Fake! The liner says it all and, in addition, I believe that this seller, spikehelmet, mainly sells repro parts as well as fake helmets.

Regards,

Edwin

Yeah fake. The liner and the entire inside shell actually... And overall, the details are poor (especially on the eagle) even for an EM helmet... But then again this could still fool me. :oops:

Besides, Jim Turinetti (Forum member) once warned us about this seller asking us not to confuse the latter's eBay name ("Spikehelmet") with his ("Spikedhelmet").

Yup, again, the liner isn't right, nor are the inside of the neck guard and visor. The eagle has that heavy seam at the neck, the plate is clumsy and the usual curve of the neck guard trim along the side of the neck is absent for this model of helmet. Another hint, other than the seller, is the 'buy it now' price.

The seller tells in the description that it is not original (Centenarfertigung).

Evidently didn't go through the translator well. Robert, is it possible for you to break that down from the compound word it evidently is? I believe fertigung is 'production'?? I'd always thought it would list as 'Neue Art, Bau etc.'; 'Reproduktion'; 'Replik'.. Centenarfertigung is a new one on me, so I'm willing to learn here!

Thanks!

Centenarfertigung means "made for the centenary". He actually says "outstanding centenary or later copy to original dimensions. A superb piece for any collection. Research shows that a comparable original costs around 8000 Euros".

Exactly what centenary he is referring to, I don't know and I doubt anyone else does. :???:

Cheers,
S.

Probably the centenary of 1909 or 10. Nice way of making 'replica' sound fancy. :-k

Thanks for the explanation, by the way!

why would this helmet be made as a centenery piece in 1909,,?? when all one would have to do is go online and order originals from the makers,, and ,, were they wearing this style of GdC helmet in 1809?

I think what Ron meant is: a Centennial replica of a 1909 or 1910 helmet... In other words, the helmet posted could be circa 2009 or 2010...

I think 'old helmets' was being just a tad facetious. http://www.cejunker.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
