Yes I did. I have the same Italian theater tunic without the unit patch. :x How about that Nicholas II sword? 75.000 to 100.000 +, pretty good deal for $500!

Yes, Jeff did a great job! He did a great job last year w/the one-year-volunteer Prussian helmet w/the carry case & cover that showed up in Des Moines.

I have the same A.A.S. bullion patch on an ID'd tunic named to an Iowa soldier. I wonder if the old friend I bought it from about 10 years ago was watching the show.

By the way, did anyone catch the British Antiques Roadshow prior to the US version that nite? Here in Iowa they show 1/2 hour of it prior to the US version.

If you did catch it, they had a beautiful Officer Garde du Corps helmet to Parade with the eagle. The eagle had a beautiful patina on it. The only problem I could see in the quick glimpse of it was that the silk portion of the liner was missing. The appraiser low-balled the value on it at some $6K some odd dollars. Not sure how many years old the episode was, as it could have been an old re-run. The person who owned the GdC helmet said that they also had another helmet at home with the spike on it. Not clear if it was another lobster tail helmet, or which style it was.

Yes, we're all wondering how "billy-bob" bought the Russian sword for $500, from someone who paid $300 for it. What a couple of "belly-scratchers" indeed. I wonder if he's going to sell it. You could almost see the $$$ symbols rolling in his eyes like a slot machine, when he was told how much the sword is worth.

All the Best,

Alan

Never ceases to amaze me. Something encrusted with diamonds and semi precious stones , do ya think its worth anything? Duh.

There is so much in the way of quality (and not so quality) copies today. These TV shows (Antiques Road Show, Pawn Stars, etc., etc.) offer numerous examples of when something is good and only occasionally when something is a true fake. Actually with Antiques Road Show you see the good stuff more than the bad, so how many swords show up with rhinestones and glass jewels?

The other point is that how many of us comic books, baseball cards or china? I know I wouldn't want to spend $500 on a china set as I couldn't possibly know its true worth! That said those guys could have probably done some research.

Pretty good fake Winchester "one of a thousand" rifle on the show Rock Island Auctions. Caught that show quite accidentally on Saturday.

Ultimately, sold as a fake that had been feature in at least one book, it fetched $30,000
