Looks like a lot of grey paint.

I had the same feeling when I saw it... And the metal shine looks fishy/too flashy in some shots.
But what could the fittings originally be if repainted to gray? M1895 Brass?

Hey Chris, could this be a 109th Leib-Grenadier Baden Regt. haube converted to M1915 during the war to reduce shine?

Hey Ron

I was thinking that same thing, the thing is that the helmet has a manufacturing date that looks to read 1917, that seems a little late for grey painted fittings. I would imagine most painted fittings would have a earlier date of manufacturing in the helmet but I really don't know enough to say for sure. Its the "maybes" and "what ifs" that tend to make me stay away from this one. If there was a good unit stamp in that helmet I could change my mind.

Actually, 1917 is a little bit late for anything related to pickelhaubes since the latter were discontinued sometime in 1916 and replaced by the Stahlhelm...
I'm pretty sure most of the mystery would've been solved had the closeups been a little bit better.

This helmet has several red flags for me, including manufacturer stamp and the odd looking shiny grey paint in some pics. But perhaps I am wrong and better pics would be more helpful.

Kind regards,

Edwin

I would not take a single risk with bidding on this one...
Look at the sellers other items ...Hmmmmm :-k
Better forget this helmet or push it in the washbasin near to it...Maybe would the grey paint fall off?...
