Chaps,

Tomorrow (25 April) is ANZAC Day, the national day of commemoration for Australian and New Zealand soldiers who have fallen in battle. Several million Australians and Kiwis will attend ANZAC Day dawn services all around the world, wherever thay happen to be congregated. Major overseas Dawn Services will be held tomorrow at Gallipoli and Villers-Brettoneaux. Veterans from past wars will march through the streets of all the major Australian cities under the banners of their former units. Tens of thousands of spectators will turn out to cheer them on in every city, and commemorate the sacrifice of previous generations. After the march, most veterans rally at the local pubs. Until the last of the Great War veterans passed away a couple of years ago, these elderly gentlemen were the pride of every ANZAC Day march.

ANZAC Day has its origins on 25 April 1915, the day of the Gallipoli landings, and have been the national day of commemoration since 1916, the first anniversary of the landing.

I shall toast to their eternal memory.
