Officers from the states of Baden and Hesse were authorized to carry a saber modelled after the Austrian cavalry officer's saber. It had a large guard with a pierced scrollwork pattern. There are a couple minor differences between these and the Austrian version. The Baden/Hesse version had 2 slots in the quillion and no langet on the backstrap of the handle, whereas the Austrian model had 3 slots and did have langet on the handle. The maker's mark is not one I am familiar with. Does anyone recognize it? The photo is of a DR21 officer with a saber of this type.
