Baden Landwehr Cavalry Officer Helme

I have been a bit lax in posting helmets from my collection. So a posting of what I consider to be a very rare helmet. How many Baden Landwehr Cavalry officers would there have been?? Of note, the bandeau is of course blank while the silver metal cross has the motto Mit Gott Fur Fuerst Und Vaterland. One slight problem with the helmet...the leather trim along the edge of the rear visor has been removed for some reason. The silk liner is also totally loose and needs a few stitches. This helmet came out of Fort Erie Ontario of all places. I would appreciate any other collectors who have examples from this unit to post pictures of their helmets. I must give credit to Tony S for IDing this piece for me. When I bought it, I knew obviously that it was original but I had no clue as to what unit.

Hi B., I recall you sent me some shots of this one sometime just after you got it. I still have those print-out's.

It's fantastic - great to see it again!

(PS. I must give you a bell soon!!!)

Mike.

Congratulations wit your ultra-rare and magnifficent haube. I've never seen one before and the condition is also great.

Hi Brian,

A very nice and rare helmet indeed! Thanks for letting us see it! =D>

Sorry to hear that you won't be at the S.O.S., I was really looking forward to being able to meet you in person. :(

All the Best,

Alan

Thanks guys, much appreciated. I also had to re stitch the rear visor on this piece....can't understand why anyone would strip off that edging though??. I also have never seen another and I am hoping that someone out there perhaps has a similar piece or even an OR's.

In peacetime, no Landwehr Cavalry units existed although Landwehr officers of the cavalry branch were on the books of their respective Landwehrbezirk. Landwehr cavalry squadrons were formed at mobilization.

From the Handbook of Imperial Germany ref. footnote 427

Don't think you will see an ORs as I don't think they exist. My understanding is that there were only Landwehr cavalry officers as (as Joe indicated above) there were no Regiments. A prestige thing?

Superb photos by the way! :thumbright: Way to go Brian! (except for that wooden head thing....)

Well, thanks Tony and Joe, I guess I will not be holding my breath for any more examples coming out of other collections. T would it be possible for you to post the uniform and shoulder board diagram that you sent me years ago for this type of officer?? Regarding the fotos...new camera and the tried and true Schnurr method of taking fotos outdoors on a cloudy day. Yes....T I will get rid of the wooden head form next time. Thanks B
