Well, as I am always looking for M15's I am bidding on this one.

Currently I am the highest bidder. What do you guy's think of it?
As I am always watching the restoration topic here I'd thought I should try restoring this one. Rear visor has come loose, but all in all it seems restorable for a novice like me. Chinstrap is an obivious fake, kokarden I am not sure of yet, but I do have some originals lying in my partsbin.

Any comments, as usual, are welcome!

I hope so too Amy. It isn't much of a helmet now.
But, after reading most of Brian's restorations on Haubes, I'd thought I'd give it a try.
Looks original enough to me, no double holes.
Shellac has some problems, but I saw some tips on that in Brian's threads too.
Sandy asked some questions about it.

If I win it, I will be updating my sewing skills though.. :lol:

The M15 is the easiest stitch, a good one to start on. Take close up pics of the rear visor before you take it off...for reference. The hardest part of this is lining up the holes properly. If part of the visor is still stitched on use a pencil and put a mark on the shell and visor to aid in lining things up. You can also use the rear spine lines in the shellac to get proper positioning. When using these lines, start pins from the middle out to visor corners. Decide on how many holes between each pin, insert pin then look on inside of shell and count holes over to where the pin is. So if you decided on 10 holes between pins your pin should be in that 10th hole. Good luck on the auction!
 
Thanks for the extra info Brian. I will sure be using your restoration threads also as reference when I get going with this M15.
That is, if I win it.
I will also be asking questions, like, how to secure the stitches, knots, as I am really out of this sewing since about '83.
Last time I was sewing I was putting some patches on motorcycle jackets, which are also leather, but that was so long ago I forgot how I did that. :wink:

Haha, no Kris, I was never into that kind of stuff. Had a Harley once, and it was no success. Got rid of it in 4 weeks time.
Those day's I was more into english motorcycles. Triumph's and Norton's. :)
 
Looks like the bowl haas really shrunk a lot. Not sure if the rear visor's holes will line up.

They have their dark side, but I enjoyed their company, on several occasions.
Had a lot of great moments, with them. And nothing illegal to it.
Some militaria collectors among them too.
Its hard to avoid them, when you have been a biker whole your live, and living in Antwerp and Putte.
 
I know, I have been riding bikes since I was 17, didn't have no license then but hey..
Had my share of times too with Harley riders, very nice people amongst them ( in fact, the majority). We had some clubs here too, but not Hell's Angels, but they were
hardcore. Their party's were absolutely great!

About the Baden, I am still the highest bidder now, got outbid 2 times but upped my bit. It is now at $185.
But I don't think I will go much higher than that. But I still like it though.. Anyway, we'll see how it goes. :)
 
Unfortunately I didn't win the Baden M15.
I got outbid several times, but called it a day when it reached $260, because with postal cost being high to get it to me, and taxes probably still needing paying by me made it to expensive.

It sold for $555 ! Quite a lot of money for a Haube needing restoration I thought.
But the search goes on for one. :wink:

I believe it is always better to spend more and get one in excellent condition.

I agree written Tony. 200+ for something that needs restoration and replica chinstrap is about the max that i would pay.

I also agree with Tony, and with you too Amy.
I really wasn't going to bid more than 200 for it, but stopped at 260. Got carried away. Thankfully I didnt go too far.
It was more a thing I liked doing, bringing it back to life, but not at that price. $555 is just way too much for it. Like Tony stated, better to get a nice one.
But, as you stated, the hunt goes on. At the moment I'm bidding on an M95, a regular Prussian line Haube, which is in original state, and really nice.
Everything is as it should be, so I hope I win that one. No double holes, nice liner,with original leather string and all tongues intact.Not an M15 but worth a try.

We'll see how it goes with this one! And, in May there is the large fair at Overloon again, were I bought a nice Prussian M15 before, and saw more nice Haubes at normal prices.

Well you guys are lucky to have fair in your own county.
According to customs in Singapore, I am the only collector for Ww1 and ww2 Military helmets in Singapore. So there is no military fair here.
Hope you find your baden at the show. I have couple of them with the more usual marking of JR 111
 
Well Amy, if you are ever in the chanche to visit Europe you are always welcome here, with your husband.
I can show you the battlefields of Flanders and Verdun.
It is not really surprising, as you in Singapore never had ww1, but you did have ww2 , but collecting is, I understand from you not so much in interest there. For collecting.
Anyway, the auction is almost ending for the M95 so I am at my atmost interest now..watching like the wolf.
In May I will be at the fair I mentioned, very nice things te be found there, also very nice things to see.
By the way, if you ever feel the need to sell one of your Baden, please contact me.

My Sunday has ended here. Sob, sob but its Chinese New year so we are here on holiday.

Yes, we went thru Ww2. The Japanese were the invaders and as we all know, they are loyal to their emperor so they destroy everything when they surrender.
