Baden Model 1887

Hi

The description by the seller is honest: he said what was changed on this helmet (the 4 split spins under the spike).

Plate and screws look very good.

The presence of a brass visor rail means that it is not a model 1887 but, according to me, a 1887 modified in 1891 helmet.

For example look at this Saxon:

For me, it is a good transitional 87/91 helmet. Indeed its value is less than a 1887

Sorry R1, I missed the visor trim in my excitement. Come on T, you already have the Prussian model "87" if memory serves although it is clouded by the vin rouge we consumed, quaffed, gulped, splashed the last time I was at chez Schnurr!!! Arghhhh what a hell of a drive I had the next day to PEI!! Margo had no mercy and made me drive all the way. Very nice casques Eric! Brian

Noop. Tis the vin rouge clouding your memory old friend. I have been trying to find a M87 for 20+ years. I have never been able to find one.

My opinion, is that the "pure" examples of any helmet pattern, seem to primarily occur with Preußen helmets. For example, I have never seen a Baden or Hessen, or Württemberg M1867 with sliders. When you find an M67 from those contingents, they always (in my experience) have standard screw posts as they did on the M1860s. So when I see a helmet with visor trim and M87 chinstrap hooks, and it is not Preußen, I am actually not all that surprised. Eric, those are wonderful helmets. Bravo!

I agree with the experience of Tony regarding the specific model 67 sliders: only on Prussian plates and helmets. But the search goes on....

Regarding the helmet, only the Wurt mle 1887 belongs to me. The Saxon is just an example.

Even they are not searched by current collectors, they are dufficult to find.

Do you know any references about useage of the 87 hook on civil helmets? I have a Baden police helmet with 87 hook but the literature does not seem to distinguish this on civil helmet models.
