Baden new addition

Excellent helmet, congratulations Amy! Can you read the markings ? I can see 2B but can’t read the rest.

I've never seen that type of chinstrap before, was it not regulation, or was it just uncomfortable?

It's the very seldom seen model 1887 helmet. The chinstrap and attachment method was unique to the Model 1887 helmet.

The chinstrap attachment proved to be not very practical. Thus the evolution into the M1891 and M1895 helmet and chinstrap attachment method that we see much more regularly.

Congratulations Amy on finding this rare helmet! It's the first time I've seen a Baden example of this model.

Best Wishes,

Alan

Thanks Amy for posting an amazing helmet and thanks to Alan and Tony for the insight on its uniqueness!
Best regards
John

Louis that chin strap was issued, it is part of the unique design of this model of pickelhaube. It was a poor design as obviously, the straps were easily lost.
