Baden Private Purchase

This is a Baden private purchase helmet that was initially sold as a OYV. It is possible that it belonged to a one year volunteer, but that would be very hard to prove. It could have simply belonged to a private who's family had the means to purchase this helmet.



The Wappen is highly detailed and has a frosted gilding, typical of private purchase helmets:



It appears that the entire helmet is made of a thin fiber:





Unfortunately the silk portion of the liner is missing from this helmet:



The spike unscrews from this helmet, which would indicate that the unit this soldier belonged to was awarded a Trichter. I suppose it could also mean that this was just an option that was purchased at random, perhaps it was "on sale":



I do not know which Baden units were allowed to wear a Trichter and there are no marks in this helmet aside from a maker's label and an unreadable name.

Very nice helme John. I owned the Wurtt version of this helmet years ago, exactly the same but different wappen.
