The 2nd Baden Grenadier Regiment was named for Kaiser Wilhelm I, This helmet is that of an Underofficer and as such has a lightweight leather body as would be found on an officer's helmet. Although not regimentally marked the helmet has a spike that screws off to accommodate a parade plume. Although Baden had nine regiments of Infantry, only the two grenadier regiments wore a parade plume and only the 2nd regiment, 110, had yellow metal trim.
The helmet plate as well as all fittings are lightly gilded. Even the leather strap buckles and hangers bear traces of gilding. An officer's silk lining is to be found inside. The cockades are original to the helmet and correct in all respects. The helmet is in sound condition, but bears some surface finish cracking, dents, and sagging. There are two sets of holes behind the frontplate. It is missing one rivet retainer to the spike. In my opinion this helmet is an honest piece that has not been abused or altered in any way.
