Lost Skeleton

This post is dedicated to James, one of the best sports I know when it comes to a letdown. The following was snatched right from under his very nose a few weeks ago on eBay. It was also the subject of this topic:

Not only is the helmet good, but James and I independently concluded it was Pionier, something not mentioned in the analysis. However, it is not unit marked. James, here she is, tricked out in original Kokarden and flat M91 chinscales.

There is some damage to the spike base. Fortunately, it is still intact.

I am still recovering from loseing this one!!!

To make it worse, the seller lived a few blocks from my brother's house, since he is overseas I could not get him to go jump on it.

Congrats on a great helmet, I truly love it, and it looks even better now with the added Kokarden and scales.

Way to go Chas, and remember me when you get tired of it!

Hi James:

I wish the scales were a permanent fix, but only I borrowed them from my Bavarian Diensthelm for the photos. It will take some doing to find another pair, or a chinstrap with Neusilber hardware.

Thanks to all of you! In fact I have been owning this one for a long time. Its history has been tracked for decades. It came with Unteroffizier cockades which seem to be original to the helmet. The general appearance and quality of Chas' pioneer helmet reminded me of this one; that's why I posted it. By coincidence I have several Train spike helmets, including Garde, Hesse... all of them in superb condition.
And thanks again to Tony for posting the pics.
