I don't know, it rings some small alarm bells for me. I can't put my finger on it, but it just doesn't seem kosher.
 
Bungo, this is of course a total ugly fake... I posted it because these things are fetching higher and higher prices...

So in the interests of increasing my knowledge, what about that item tipped you off that it was a fake, pointystuff? I wouldn't purchase it, but I wouldn't have immediately picked it as dodgy - that beaten up, it probably would have passed my BS detector :lol:
 
The metal parts--the Kugel and plate in particular--aren't shaped quite like originals. If the pictures weren't so dark, the stitching on the body would probably be another sign.
The devices used to attach the metal parts to the shell aren't like real ones, either.
The artillery helmet appears to be one of the copies coming out of the U.K....much like this Prussian infantry version:

One obvious clue....look at how the silk liner is stitched to the sweat band. A line of stitches can be easily seen. Originals are tack stitched between the scallops on the edge of the band so you can hardly see them.
