Barvarian Officers Pickelhaube 1914

Won this on EBay a couple of weeks ago, from Bavaria Germany.

Seller had it listed as a 1910 leather, it is infact a 1914 vulkanfiber.

The wappen is post - 20 February 1914, simplified and reduced i.e minus the vines.

The helmet's sweatband being oilcloth, indicates wartime economy.

Overall its a very nice looking helmet, in pretty good condition.

Thanks to b.loree, Lost Skeleton and Tony & Kaiser in the EBay section for correctly identifying it.

Congrats Thomas, very nice indeed! I remember Randy Trawnik telling me years ago that he tried to collect as many of these V fibre helmets as he could (different states and model of course) as they are basicallly indestructable. I believe V fibre to be an early form of plastic???....I am ready to be corrected on that statement. B

Nice looking helmet!

Hey Brian, I don't know much about 'Vulcan Fiber' either, but I suspect that it was formed by pressure / heat like the WWII US tanker helmet, miner's helmets and such, rather than a resin / web like fiberglass.

Just my thoughts, like you, I'm ready to be corrected.

:D Ron
