Sorry Philippe, I didn't see that there. I'm sure if I'd seen it I would have photographed it. I think they have more at that museum than they have on display. Also some things like Ludwig II's items were on temporary loan to another museum.
Every time I go and see a museum like this it just makes me want to go back again sometime!

Yes, you may be right: it´s a fact that most of museums have a lot of items but not enough showrooms to display them...(but their cellars are plenty...! What a pity! :crybaby: )
Last November as I asked Mr Kraus, the curator of the Ingolstadt War Museum , he certified me they have such a GR89 II Haube in their inventory (without regimental markings), but they do not have any pictures of it...It would have been a great occasion to compare with my own helmet. :sad7:

Thanks Chris for bringing back some good memories for me. I was fortunate enough to be able to have access to the museum's reserve collection back in 1978 with the help of an American museum curator, who was working there for a year. Just to confirm Chris's guess...there is a very large collection behind the scenes. I was just interested in the WWI period items, of which there were plenty, but there was much, much more.
At the time I was there they were putting together an exhibition relating to WWI. They have many items from other participant countries of WWI, in fact, enough to put together entire mannequins representing Austrian, Russian, French, Italian and other armies. I wish I had taken a lot more photos than I did. I spent the better part of a week there and really had to rush through to see what I wanted.

Third photo down, M1908 with uberzug is from the Bavarian 16th Reserve Infantry Regiment. This was a Adolf Hitler's regiment, he just might have been issued a hat like this in 1914.
It was also used by Landsturm.

Wylie, thanks for confirming the unit that hat went to. I was a bit confused there. I didn't know the reserve also wore these hats although the markings clearly said so. I also didn't put 2 + 2 together and come up with AH's old unit.
Chip, now I'm the one who's jealous! Spending a whole week looking through the back rooms...

Yes, they had quite a few WW1 uniforms from Entente countries, UK, US, France, Belgium etc and also a Portuguese Regimental flag captured during the 1918 offensive.

b.R.I.R. 17 had a regimented cover, R over 17. This could be something peculiar to either the 12th Bavarian Reserve Infantrie Brigade, or even the 6. Bayerische Reserve-Division in 1914.

In regards to the 'Gatling-gun'. The 3.7cm Gruson-Hotchkiss Revolverkanone (fortress artillery) was manufactured under licence by Gruson (later bought-out by Krupp). It was used by both France and Germany after the Franco-Prussian War.

Back from a cruise and you hit me with this! APE. I agree with you on the meal. Nothing better. But this photo… Okay I will start adding some more today.
The Hotchkiss revolving cannon is an interesting weapon, I have a friend who has one taken off an American vessel from around the turn of the century, he has mounted it on a carrage and it is currently on display at the American West Heritage Center in Logan, Utah
