Artillery or train haube as used from issue circa 1888 till mid war with convex scales. For reservist.
Infantry private purchase other ranks circa 1896 onwards with flat scales. Courtesy of forum colleague, CCJ.
Note the different size in helmet plate with the Infantry haube sporting the reduced size coat of arms.

The two shots of the cabinet shows for comparison, the Bavarian 1866 helmet next to the 1887 new style Prussian Infantry helmet. Plus the 1896 version for Bavaria which was very much based on the Prusian model of 1895.

A few clarifications are in order:
---The infantry helmet is an M96 effectively modeled on the “Prussian M95”, but here it is an “Eigentum”. Extra-Helm for one-year voluntary enlistments, it was not supplied by the Kammer. The peak is too high, the edge of the visor is too thin, and the chinstrap is of the M71 officer type, as an 1896 KB-troupe should have side posts. With the rounded scales it could also be a Chevauleger.
---The other is not an M66 but an M1886/96. This means that in 1896, the Prussian M71 chinstrap (like the one on the Eigentum) was removed and 2 Prussian M91 side posts were fitted. Scales, on the other hand, should be flat for infantry.
