Gents, what would be the difference between golden-fitted & silver-fitted Chevauleger Off. Pickelhauben? Regiment numbers only?
Since this seller doesnlt have the best reputation, what do you think of his latest post:

Looks like artillery to me... Red Haarbusch instead of white. Who knows if it's truly an original set or assembled. Personally, I wouldn't go with it because of the split brads, cockades. Late War? Post War? I dunno. For me, it just doesn't all work... but that's just ME. How 'bout some others?

That's incredible, this hobby is really difficult, I can't tell the difference between an all original pickelhaube and one that has been "retouched" with parts and other things.
I was interested in this helmet and was willing to pay whatever was necessary to get it.
Guess I will pass but it is damn scary out there if you don't know what you are looking for.

Need to study my subject a lot more, haaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

I think the best with expensive militaria is to stick to trusty sellers/collectors whether on eBay or elsewhere with clear return/refund policies. As for the 'regular' stuff, one has to trust their instinct/experience and share with the more knowledgeable guys on this Forum...

I completely agree :bravo: Even the best reference books cannot beat the input from the experts on this forum.

Even the most reputable dealers can sometimes get something that's not quite right and others (that there are sometimes doubts about) will find some nice stuff. Like I said, I'd like to hear more about what others think about this. It wasn't really my intent to ruin anybody's hopes to purchase something; it just wasn't something that didn't quite fit for ME, that doesn't necessarily mean it's not good.
Something to discuss.
