enlisted man
and
Officer Stellvertreter
both are shown on page 560 of Mike Kelso's book
the enlisted man strap has an old tag on the back
and is another strap from an old strap blanket

Two very rare shoulder straps. Congratulations Steve. (y)

Here are some images I saw on eBay Germany back in 2017. They do Not belong to me.

Steve's shoulder strap on the viewer's right looks exactly like the one shown in the second Archer of the Guard cabinet photo I posted below.

Nice photos
Many thanks
Steve

Steve,

I am not certain what the first strap is but I can confirm that the "Offizier-Stellvertreter" strap is the normal strap of the rank of Hartschier. (in the rank of a Feldwebel/Vizefeldwebel). It is described as thus in both the "Knötel, Pietsch, Collas" and in a more official period publication - "Die Rang- und Uniforms-Verhältnisse im Königreich Bayern, 1894. This from a collection of Bavarian laws and decrees.

Regards
Glenn

Some details of these pictures are of real interest for collectors. I noted the different koppel's badge which changed over the time.

The latter picture shows Premier-Brigadier Paul Pfeiffer around 1870 (he has yet to receive the commemorative medal for 1870-71). The rank is that of an Oberlieutenant (rank and spelling then in use). The subaltern officers of the Hartschiere, the Premier-Brigadiers and Brigadiers were commissioned from the ranks of the Hartschiere. The non-commissioned officers of the Hartschiere were all senior NCOS in the rank of Feldwebel/Vizefeldwebel or equivalent "of faultless conduct".

Glenn

As an Imperial belt buckle collector, I have never seen either of these two types of rare buckles in person. I've only seen photos of them.
