Indeed, this was sold by Alan...
Some Evaporust would clean it back to perfection but DON'T SOAK IT FOR TOO LONG otherwise you'll kill the grey coating! (provided whoever bought it is here reading this)

In fact, a replica stamped steel Kokarde will partially dissolve if it's left in the product for a couple of weeks.

I am wondering if the evaporust affects the zinc,,,I have soaked WW1 grenades to restoration for a couple of weeks with no problem

I would have loved to have kept the spike, which I purchased this last summer, but it did not work out for the helmet I bought it for.

The spike did not fit properly on my Bavarian M15 helmet with the square cut visor and the cruciform cross base. The opening for the spike was a little too big for the spike knob/base on my helmet, and the spike wobbled a bit when placed on the helmet. And the color of the gray finish on it was way off from matching the rest of the fittings on my helmet.

Best Regards,

Alan

That is typical of the M15 replacement spike quest in this hobby even with the regular M15's. Some times the spike will not fit on the spike base "knob" plus the paint/patina does not match the rest of the fittings. That's why, at one time, I had more than a dozen M15 bases, so that if I did find a spike top, I could match it with a proper coloured base providing it fit the knob and would lock on.
