I know, I know, no regimental markings so no way to prove it is an original artillary helmet, but in my heart I am sure it is!!!

Either way, just picked up this beauty, and I am convinced it was never issued. Liner is still supple and show no real wear, and original leather tie string is still tied up in one eyelet.

has the same maker mark stamped twice, I cannot make it out?

James

Lovely. The real beauty of it is, that without contradictory unit markings, no-one can really question it. Way to go James. :thumbright:

Hey Slim,
It looks good from the first look, but on closer inspection, it is a modern reproduction, worth about 100 bucks, but since I like you, I am willing to take it off your hands for 150 bucks. I would hate for you to have to look at this helmet every day. The real give away is the size, at size 58, it would be a very unusual example if it was real. Very nice.
Best wishes
Gus
ps, did you buy this one with Paul's credit card?

how about:
Nurnburg.jpg

this one is on our list and already has been tied to an M15 Bavarian artillery. Always good to check the list!

Thanks Joe, I went through the list and must have missed that one!

This one was on a Bavarian Atriallry helmet huh! that makes me happy and reinforces that I think this one is correct.

thanks again

James

PS GUS I only use Paul's credit card when he is not looking!

Beautiful helmet James! Joe the maker was actually in Nurnberg (aka Nuremberg). I have the other version of the 1915 bavarian artillery helmet, with the cruciform basis and fluted splike with Perlring.

Hi James:
Looking at your pics, I believe that you have a nice honest piece here, probably a "Bond Helme" that was never issued to any particular unit. If you look closely at the patina and colour of the fittings it all looks the same. It is very hard to piece together one of these M15s as the paint colours on the replacement fittings seldom match the original. I think that this is an excellent helmet ! Brian

Thanks all for the comments!

Brian- My first thought was war bond helmet as well, for sure it is in excellent shape!

James

James,

That helmet will go very nicely with the tunic and trousers I just acquired. Just send it over via express post and I promise it will have a good home.

Mike

Hey Mike,
Speaking of watching the mailbox, the Grabenpanzer and Grenade bags that you gave me have not arrived yet, but I am still blissfully waiting.
Gus

Nope, it is getting so that the equipment is so costly, the photos are nearly bring the same price as the real thing did a few years ago.
