By the way I love the helmet, I have no idea if it is all correct, but I love it!

This seller has 2 helmets on ebay. Check out the Oldenberg JR91. I am no expert on Tschapkas but the Bavarian looks quite nice to me. It will go for big bucks. FYI there will be a Garde Ulan EM tschapka model 1871 (bolt on scales) up for sale at the SOS. Silver fittings and brass convex scales. Brian

Hey Thony, HI do not know wHat would make you think I would slather Hs in this thread, I do like the Ulan Thschapkha thhough, Lhucky for my wallet, it does not fit my collection. I must admit, the infection is hard to fight.
Best wishes

I am in love with this helmet. It is one of three dream helmets that I would like to aquire. I am planning on bidding on it unless someone feels it has problems or someone else wants to bid on it. I will not bid against a fellow Pick.com member.

What would be the high side of what it's worth? Just in case I do try and win it, I wouldn't want to pay more than its worth.

You all know I have a new fondness of Kabutos. :)

Man, This bloke has some goodies, I have the Mexican Officer's tunic on my watch list, and I do not collect officer's stuff.

Hi Paul:

I was planning to go for broke for this one.

Chas.

Hey Paul,
Don't be a girly man, you roll over to quick, make Chas pay for it.
Ha ha

A Tsapka for the 2nd Bavarian Ulanen from Ansbach has been at the top of my list for some years. I used to serve beer in one of their former Kantines at the Kaserne in Ansbach.

I shall be hard-on this one.

Why? Paul, Chas, George, its an auction. Go for it. It is not a matter of "who sees it first claims it". The only concession I make, is if a friend and myself want the same item, we will share our max. If his max is higher than mine, then I will back off. So I would say to all of you, have fun and bid what you are comfortable with and I hope one of you gets it. It looks to be a beautiful example. George, would like to hear about your Germany service by e-mail some time, I assume in green? I was there 81 to 84 in Lahr.

I agree with Tony! My brother should bid the highest :D :D :D

Just kidding, good luck to all, just hope someone in our group gets it! I would bid myself, but have purchased quite a few helmets lately and I am trying to save up!

Probaly will have enough by SOS to buy whatever Brian is talking about??

James

Hi Tony:

I quite agree. Paul and I already discussed the issue of respective maximum bids last night. It is an auction and everyone is free to do his bidding.

The Tschapka jumped $1,000.00 overnight. What I can't understand is why people bid against themselves. It's a given someone will be the high bidder, but why ping pong for the glory of being temporary number one when there is no reserve? I learned this lesson the costly way early on and always place my bid within the last ten seconds of the auction.

I don't consider this sniping; just common sense. Why let some spoiler chip away at my maximum bid days before the auction closes?

Chas.

Just ran across both of these helmets on this web site
http://www.diggerhistory.info/pages-uniforms/pickelhaube.htm
Does anyone know this guy? Bill

Now isn't that bizarre?

I know who the eBay seller is, but will never again drop his name here (given the fracas last time).

Keine Ahnung regarding the Digger. Nice plug for Joe, though.

Chas. :?:

You will also find many of my helmets cap and tunics on this web site without my permission. He refuses to answer e-mails or respond in any way, he just steals copywrited photos from the internet to build his own web site. Jerk. Ignore that web site completely.
