Hello,

I would like to show you my latest find. A Bavarian helmet from 1912, which I have been looking for a while.

I would appreciate your opinion on this piece, also on the unit markings.

Regards
Malte

Just wondering about the stud at the top ob the back ventilation spine...Never saw that before....
Do you see other holes in the shell, behind the bavarian Wappen? I mean to see one...

That's an interesting point, to be honest I hadn't noticed it until now. I'll take a few more photos later.

Here are more photos from the inside. Behind the bavarian Wappen, I don't see any other holes, except for one but that's damage. This goes through the Wappen, the shell and the inner lining. I have marked it with a red arrow on the photos.

It looks as if the back vantilation spine cannot be fully opened as normal. But I'm no expert, I'm still at the beginning of collecting ...

That's very odd. I've never seen that on a M95 rear spine, especially unusual on an issued Kammer marked helmet.

You might expect something like this on a private purchase piece...

I am pretty sure that vent spilt pin was a post war add on.
The vent hole goes through to the shell and the novice collector thought it was missing a split pin so he added one.

Or maybe it became lose over time and would not still in a closed position and the owner became tired of the elements creeping in.

Lot of possibilities

Thank you all for your help. We can only guess when the vent split pin was installed, but that is not a problem for me even if it happened after the war 🙂

Can someone please help me with the troop stamp? Could it be the II Bavarian I.R. Kronprinz?

Of Cource but unfortunately I'm not entirely sure either. I have tried to draw it.
I can't see if there are dots in between. The leather between the letters and numbers has shrunk too much for that.
My idea was that the I of infantry is a bit too close to the II. Or could it be third regiment?

I may suggest that it seems like it is of the same era. Maybe a stretch, but I used to modify my military uniforms and armor to better fit my situation (probably against regs...). It could be that the person wearing this wanted extra ventilation (I think I see extra vent holes) and modified it.

Assuming that's not the case, I would think you're right.
