The fakes are improving little by little...

It looks similar to this style.

This helmet type was used widely by the various police units, the national cockade indicates that it is a postwar piece. The plate looks awfully crude in the closeup - maybe a mixed restored/completed helmet?

That reference of a 1886 transitional helmet is very interesting, does anybody know more about it? I see no difference to the Schutzmannschaft/Gemeindepolizei helmets of the period, which also had silver fittings.

It seems to be a repro, through and through. I've been trying to track down the company that's making them. It's probably in Europe, rather than India as I first guessed.

Hi all,

When I read a lot of posts here I take it that there are more and more fakes on the (e)market than there are genuine ones for sale...?

Should I be glad not to have won the bid on this one...?

I managed to raise the price to €420 but then someone beat me to it in the last minute :o

Where can I find good information on the genuity of WW-1 helmets...?

Many thanks for replying (on this pretty old subject - 2005 :D )

The suspicious thing that I see on that helmet is the date 1915. . Any chinscales worn on an issued EM helmet would have been the type that fit over the M91 side posts. What we have here are officer style chinscale bosses holding the scales on to the shell. Nice Baden NCO kokarde though. The helmet probably was put together but one would have to have a hands on look at it. The photos conveniently do not reveal too much. So just as well some other person "won" it. Brian

The greatest give away to this, other than the lumpy, punky looking shell is the liner. It's usually pretty easy to spot fakes from the inside. I agree that this one is 100% fake.

Which one do you mean?

Hi "masterofoblivion"!
I saw this Haube on ebay too and I asked the seller a few questions. He wrote me the chinscale was not brass but silvered :o
Brian, are you sure that the NCO cockade is a Baden one? It think it is a NCO cockade worn by the Hansestadt of Bremen. (white-red-white). That is the reason why I have looked for some markings like "I.R.75" or "BA.IX."
However, I think this helmet was definitely a parts helmet....

Still looks like a Baden NCO kokarde from my computer. The band on the kokarde is an orange/red on my screen. Probably a difference in computers has created this confusion. I am totally uncertain now!! Brian
