I recently bought the attached helmet advertised as a “Prussian Pioneers helmet”. Knowing the helmet had the wrong Wappen on it and given that it needed some work (adding a silver spike base stud, re-stitching of the rear visor) I got the helmet at a good price.
Having it in hand revealed
someone had made the Prussian Wappen fit the grommet holes by re-soldering the Wappen loops. So, it turns out the helmet, based on the grommet spacing and the fact that it was made in Neu Ulm tells me it’s Bavarian.
Good news I guess, but the bad news is I need a Neusilber Wappen to complete it.
Does anyone have one they could part with?
