hello everyone, I am new to the forum. I recently acquired a Bavarian Police helmet (at least I assume it is), what I am seeing is that they seem somewhat rare and as such, I have been unable to really find a resource to rely on about them. can you guys school me on this? I havent made photos just yet, but i will and post them. thanks for everything!

First welcome to the forum, it is a great group of people here and glad to have you here.

Bavarian Police helmets come in a lot of varieties, I will picture a couple of mine which are gendarmerie

Most are not all that rare, you just do not see much of them on the internet or on forums as there is a much smaller group of people that collect them.

The only books that I know of that really touch on them are in German. First is a single volume Geschichte des Polizei-Eschatos by Erich Radecke, he then expanded his books to include more in a 3 volume set called Polizei-Ubzeichen also by Erich Radecke. These can be found on Ebay Germany pretty easy.

Again, part of the fun of Police helmet collecting is the ton of different styles, different front plates etc. for different cities etc.

wow those are beautiful. the wappen and spike on mine are similar to your second one. they look the same. the cockade on top is slightly discloured but the color and paint has eroded away. can yuo take a photo of the underbelly of your beautiful helmet. right now i am working night shift so I cant post photos, but may walk out to my car and so it. I am missing one of the "buttons" on the back which I hope to find. i think the lions are gorgeous. I have a few faint markings inside with a CM stamp, that i have never seen before, but yes, those two are gorgeous.

Nice helmets guys! I have one, but the plate is all messed up, crowns cut off, etc. and I suspect the Bavarian plate on it isn't original to the helmet, but have no real proof, since the imprint is an old one. However, if a silver plate went with silver trim, then that would be proof, since mine is a brass plate on a silver trimmed helmet. My wife bought it for me when I was in Iraq, so it's pretty special to me in that respect. :) Not many wives 'helmet shop' for their husbands.

yeah, i think I lucked out on this find. mine is brass all the way around. that being said, I am hiding it from my wife lol. she doesnt know about mine yet. I already have two others (different type).

can you post pics of yours? I am trying to find someone willing to sell a Bavarian NCO or Officers helmet for a reasonable price.
