Bavarian War Merit Cross Question

I just purchased this Bavarian War Merit Cross and it was advertised as "WW1 BAVARIAN MILITARY SERVICE CROSS 3rd CLASS WTH SWORDS RIBBON 1913-1918".

Same seller had one with the other more common ribbon and advertised it as with 1866 ribbon.

Looking around the net I have only seen this ribbon on a couple examples on emedals. Can anyone tell me what it is? Is it correct for this medal?

Thanks.

Peter

Okay so slowly answering my own question - sort of….

Appears to be a long service ribbon on my merit cross. In fact if it had a number on the back centre instead of the lion (and no swords) it could have been one. I wonder why this ribbon would be on it? Emedals also has long service medals with this ribbon on their site. Funny they also have war merit medals with the same ribbon?

Was this some sort of strange authorized combination?

Yes, your ribbon is for some of the various Bavarian long service series medals and crosses that they had.

The ribbon for your Bavarian military merit cross 3rd class with swords would be a different ribbon. I've attached a photo from e-Medals to show what it should look like.

All the Best,

Alan

Thanks Alan. Funny how it made its way onto this medal. Oh well, live and learn.

There are 3 ribbons associated with the Bavarian Militar-Verdienstkreuz. The following photo shows the 3 ribbons. The ribbon on the left is for non military personnel, the center ribbon is a non combat award and the one on the right is a combat award.
