Bayern Private Purchase 'haube.

This Spike has been hot stuff and in the news at some time -6615316977. It looks interesting - but what do you lot think of it? I did'nt think that the fluted spike with the round base combination happened on Bavarian helmets?

Hi Mike:

It is the first of these I've seen with a fluted spike. Otherwise, it is completely consistent with the examples discussed in this old thread:

http://www.pickelhaubes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=534

Before I sent my helmet to Brian for ace restoration, the front peak was actually in worse shape than the eBay helmet (fortunately, it hadn't been wrapped in newspaper, though).

The eBay helmet can be rescued.

Chas.

Looks great to me Mikey but that combo of fluted spike and round base......I have never seen that before. perhaps Tony or someone else has a picture of this being worn. It would be very easy to change the spike to a more common configuration though. Brian

Thanks for the feedback fella's. For something that ".....hasent seen the light of day for years" the Riechskokarde looks a bit fresh. And the inner spike base retainer appears to me, slightly 'issue' looking for some reason. Maybe I'm spooked by that flute spike though.

I might give this a go but Brian, - do you think the newspaper would pose a problem to remove?

Sorry, can't help as to my knowledge there is no such thing as a fluted spike top on a round base for Bayern.

For Mecklenburg-Schwerin yes, but not Bayern. See chart here>> http://www.kaisersbunker.com/hp/spikes.htm

Well that coalboxes that. If thats a fixed spike assembly, which it seems to be then it's not just the top thats been changed.

Thanks one and all and goodnight.
