Beautiful ID’ed enlisted schirmmütze for a Dragoner Bosch in the Ersatz-Escadron of Dragoner-Regiment König (2. Württembergisches) Nr.26. bright blue body with golden yellow band and piping. The yellow is vibrant, which is scarce on caps from the period – it seems to be one of weakest hues and is often fully or partially faded. Great form and tight stitching. Ersatz sweatband intact, with a light blue cotton interior with a beautiful silver maker logo for a maker in the Feuerbach district of Stuttgart. Excellent reich and Württemberg cockades. Aside from a spot or two on the top, virtually moth-free. Overall in a condition that is very scarce these days.

The cap bears a paper owner label of the type used at the time identify personal items, for a Dragoner Bosch in the Ersatz-Escadron. The Württemberg Verlustlisten from the war shows a Wilhelm Bosch of DR26 as “missing.” My understanding is the Ersatz-Escadron only existing upon wartime mobilization, so presumably this was purchased early in the war. The label has the same wear pattern as the liner, and interestingly, since a corner is loose, it is possible to see that the label prevented wear beneath it. All indications are it is a period addition.
