I know nothing about these older helmets, this one looks like a gem, though:

This a M1867 helmet for Saxon-Reiter (4 Regts in 1870). This is not a very rare helmet and it is quiet easy to find in a excellent condition. This one looks very good. I would say...1500???

there is another one listed 6261013161 also on ebay.de. . Sorry it is a dragoon helmet of the same period . Gotta get new spcticles

That may be a common helmet in France, but not here. I have seen perhaps a dozen of these for sale, ever, including German auctions. The ones that go for the very low price mentioned above are usually beaters with ripped up liners, torn leather, etc. Even at over $2500 I think these are undervalued. They are a beautiful helmet, and were only in use a very short period.
 
Well, I won't be bidding this one and I suspect that it will be a relative bargain by the time the dust clears. Thank you for your commentary, which pretty much confirmed my thoughts.
