We have a brief report: Personal testimony of Lt Robin, 1st Platoon/Ist Esk/5 Lancers Regiment.
It was he who ordered his Platoon to remove their oilcloth tschapka covers as these reflected the sunlight.
Some interesting booklets by the late Major (Belgian Airforce) H.J. Vanthuyne
Dutch (translated to English by me).
And...of course...our book.

Khukri said:5th Lancers Regiment was a newly formed Regiment: 11th Nov 1913. The Standard was presented to this Regiment August 12th 1914 by the Commander Cav Div-The morning of the "Battle of the Silver Helmets".
The distinctive colors changed in 1914 (never been executed-except for some Officers)
-Ammarant for 1th-2nd and 3rd Regiments
-White for the 4th and 5th Regiments
The plates show the horsehair bush:
-White for 1th and 2nd Regts
-Red for the 3rd and 4th Regts
Trumpetters:
-The last plate shows the yellow lanyard for trumpetters of all Lancers Regts.
But: Yellow lanyards are worn by all OR in the 2nd Lancers Regt!!!
No special horsehair busch!!!
Francis
BTW: Missing one for my 2nd Lancers OR Tschapka.
