Is that just a Pickelhaube plate that's been flattened out and stuck on a Tschako?

Hi, yes I suppose you're right, it also looks like an officer plate on an EM tshako, doesn't it ?
could be period made but strange combination anyway, would be interesting to look at the back of the plate and the holes + prints of the plate in the shell,
