Why this isn't called Central Powers and Allies I don't know. But basicall the old Axis & Allies game for WWI:

Thanks! I might actually buy this. We have a family get together for two weeks in the summer and the boys and I used to play the old one. Too bad there is not anything on a computer that I know of.

Well Joe, maybe we can get in an A&A 1914 game at SOS next year.

I've played the original game for the past 25 years, and I'm looking forward to something different. I should add that my family does play a lot of board games and in January my uncle/cousin took on my father and me in the original A&A. That lasted exactly three turns. It was the worst ass-kicking ever. My uncle and cousin blamed the dice, but no amount of dumb luck can overcome stupid moves. I vowed that my father/me could have a 100+ win streak if my uncle/cousin play so stupidly.

So Joe, I'll let you have Gus and James on your team. :-"

I sent this to the boys. Apparently there is an enhanced older version that is apparently "global" and was extremely time-consuming. The word was it took an entire weekend. Perhaps too much for us. No one had heard of this and I guess I should look up some reviews. What have you heard? We also do a fair amount of games! And I rent a compound sort of on Whidbey Island for two weeks in the summer. So we can literally keep it set up. The girls are not so much into this.

A&A 1914 only came out in March so I've heard next to nothing.

An old favorite of mine is Grand Imperialism: http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/3641/grand-imperialism" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This is a conquer the world game, but it uses a fictional map that I don't care for.

So our "house game" we use the map from War: Age of Imperialism: http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2718/war-age-of-imperialism" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That takes a good eight hours with five people. Since moving back to Michigan I get together with some friends from college and we play the board games. We rather enjoy this world conquest game because you complete against the map and minor powers as much as against the other players.

Thanks for that Peter! There are three of us. That one looks pretty good – I know it is stupid but we like the little toy soldiers. What about computer games – for the Macintosh?

I think Civilization V might be available for the Mac OS. I am sure there are some scenarios for WWI or something. I know there are a few scenarios already. The mulitplayer in Civ V is good, and there is a hot seat mode too.

There has been an unfortunate move away from strategy games for the computer. I guess the other game you might like is the Total War series. The Napoleonic Era one was very good.

Hey James, I think Peter is saying we are dumber than his uncle and cousin!

My review is up, along with some photos of the game:

And yes, I think Joe and I could beat Gus and James. James is too easy to distract with a shiny helmet.
