Hello everyone,

what do you think? Could the helmet be original? Is it worth restoring?

Thanks

High quality fakes of these have been circulating for a few years now. I can't say if this is good or bad, but just know that the fakes are being made.

Hello my friend could you please take pictures of the rivets that hold the liner in place. These are missing many times and its a great way study the original manufactures method. Are there any markings in the liner?

I personally would leave it just the way it is. (y)

Hello John,

my question was whether the helmet is original, in case anyone has had experience with it. If it is original, I won't restore it , I'm putting it up for sale here.

I'll take some photos of the rivets.

These two are considered originals, note they have the rear side punched holes, which the other does not. but some repos have them too.

Thanks

Here is a picture of a fake that circulated for a few years. Many of them like this with various type of rust and artificial ageing. To be honest so few were made that most that are ever documented to be authentic, have either been recovered straight from the trenches during excavation in very poor condition.

Here is a picture of a non authentic one.

Here is another example up for auction, without fastening ears for straps.

Strange to say, but at my work we used to have a corrosive product that would make metal look like it was forever. After an hour in this product, it would be 200 years old if it was left in the rain for a while after treatment.
