A truly beautiful and totally authentic piece!! I was hoping that Bruno would post some fotos on the site. Terrific wappen showing original gilding, regimental markings and date. Just fantastic!!!!! Brian
 
That is just so nice Bruno. Once in a while you have to say: "what the hell" and go for it eh?

Thanks very much to all of you. You are very right Tony, you NEVER regret to pay the price for a great item. Yes R1, it is maker marked. I think it is Alexander Dahl, put I will double-check.

As there has been no recent follow up, I think this merits posting. I purchased it in August 2003 from Herr Weitze. The interior is marked faintly with the A. Wunderlich Stempel, the size (either 54 or 56), and what appears to be a partial "1" garniture stripe. If the helmet was ever regimentally marked, the ink has long since been obliterated. However, no markings have been defaced.

Having seen Bruno's helmet in close-up detail, I have no doubt about the integrity of mine (but I do wish it was as lavishly stamped as Bruno's).

A very sweet piece Chas! Nice to see the continuity in the wappen configuration ie loops with square nuts for the extra Reuss stern. For new collectors: on both of these wappen, we see how original solder should look...puddled on with lots of rounded edges and a deep grey colour due to 90+ yrs of oxidation. You will note also, that there is no presence of left over flux ie. shiny deposites that look like varnish. Any sort of wet look, shiny solder, burn marks around the loops all indicate a replaced loop or screw post. In addition, both of these excellent helmets show the outline and shadow of the wappen on the front of the shell. These lines match up exactly so there is no doubt of authenticity! Any makers mark on yours Chas? It would be nice to pin down Alexander Dahl as the maker for Reuss ORs' helmets. I want one tooooo!! Brian

Hi Brian:

The helmet is marked "A. Wunderlich Berlin." However, the Fuerst Adler and Reuß Wappen appear to be from the same source as Bruno's.
