I would love to get the history on this helm.

An old Vet wanting to hold onto his memories perhaps

The interior is almost pristine . The outside shows it's age .

Looks like the old fellow did not were it much.

30-40 years in the service.

Nice helmet :D

About the name....J H Hof is what I can read but remainder is unclear to me.

Best regards,

Edwin

The wappen eagle is similar to the Rhineland Fire officer helmets, only they are in silver. The lack of any crown is also similar as is convex scales, cruciform spike base, stars etc. If it is Brunswick....why the Prussian officer kokarde on the left side? What does the motto say on the shield?

Brian ;
That "Running Horse " badge is seen on Braunschweig Veterans badges
with a small ribbon under it . I have a couple of them .
Until now , I have never seen one on a helmet .

I barrowed this pic from J. LeBrasseur's post .

The wappen is just like the one on my helmet but has had the crown cut off .

It looks like the main plate eagle wappen was never stamped with the crown or has been expertly removed. The smaller Brunswick wappen has a void were the crown once was.

Obviously, with the removal of the crown on both the eagle and the shield this is a post WW1 piece probably from the 1920's with as yet, no influence of the 3rd Reich. A true Landwehr example from the Brunswick veterans association.
