These things are scary. I have several buckles from several states but I haven't bought one of these. There are just soooooo many copies out there and some of the copies are very, very good.

As with John, I too collect buckles, but never picked up one of these. However it appears ok from the photos. I never purchase a buckle unless I can see it and hold it first.

How does it work? :-k

I have seen a few, the loops on the ends of the buckle attache to the spool for winding or laying telephone cables.
On page 254 of Johan Somers' Book "The Imperial German Armies in Field Grey: Seen Through Period Photographs-1907-1918" volume one, there is a photo of a telephonist wearing one of these buckles, and on page 262 there is a photo of a soldier with the spool attached to the buckle (although the buckle is not visible)
