Although I think this was done by a WWI vet after the war (which all of the US WWI camouflaged helmets were: post 11/11/18), it is possible that it may have been done by a bored German as he painted his Stahlhelm. I think it's period, but I also think these guys wanted this WAY too much 8-[ ... much more than I'd have paid, but then, I wasn't the one who bought it!
