Can anyone..

Hi

Can anyone tell me something about this one? What was it original used for and how old is it? Any info could have interest. I only have this picture. Inside it is marked "LG 1879"

The helmet is from a danish auction.

This exact helmet is illustrated on page 47 of Deutsche Feurwehruniformen und Helme bu Bolko Hartmann. It is in the top left hand quadrant of the page in color. The German description states that it is an officer's helmet from Northern Germany, duvenstadt, near Hamburg with a guard star and sunbirst and 1891. The full German test reads as follows:
"Offiziershelme aus Norddeutschland oben links: Gardestern auf "Sonne" , spitzkamm miy unterlage, einfacher Kinnriemmen (FF Duvenstadt bei Hamburg 1891)"

Hey Doc,
Great auction site, now I have got to learn some Danish too, it is interesting that this site keeps a running clock on the screen so you know how much longer the auction runs, nice touch, the geeks in Kalifornia didn't manage to do that.

Hi all.

Thanks for info about the helmet :)

Yes Gus i think the QXL auction site is cool to. A shame it is not as big as Ebay. I think QXL is the 2nd biggest auction site in europe. Tjeck out these QXL links:

Norway: www.qxl.no
Sweden: www.qxl.se
France: www.aucland.fr
UK: www.qxl.co.uk
Italy: www.qxl.it
Denmark: www.qxl.dk
Polen: www.aukcje24.pl
Switzerland: www.ricardo.ch
Holland: www.ricardo.nl

Some of the sites you need a user name to enter the military items. Some forbidden sympols you know :)

Gus if you ever need translation with swedish, norwegian og danish please let me know.

Thanks Doc...now I have another place to spend money I do not have!!! Welcome to the forum and keep posting. Brian

Hi Doc
Thanks for the other sites, I use the internet translators when I get stumped, they are not great, but they usually get me close enough. I am finding that I am getting able to read rrather well in Italian, French with traing in only German, Spanish and Polish, very remedial at best.
Gus
I noticed that you can get to all these sites by clicking on the flag buttons at the bottom of the pages.
Thanks again
