I have a new postcard on the way from Germany that I'm really excited about. I don't normally buy postcards of public scenes, I prefer portrait postcards, but I couldn't pass this one up!

It's a photo of Grand Duke Friedrich II of Baden, wife, and his mother-in-law (and some of her grandchildren) riding in carriage. On the back side of the card is a note from Friedrich himself to his mother, mentioning his wife, mother-in-law and Prince Eitel Friedrich of Prussia. It's initialed at the bottom "F".

The card says: "Königstein, 25.VIII.07. Herzensdank für lieben Brief gestern und heutiges Telegramm. Hier ein Bild der Begrüßung an der Lahnbrücke in Weilburg. Schwiegermama, Hilda und ich begrüßten gestern Eitel Fritzens in Homburg, wo es sehr nett war. Grüßen herzlichst, F."

This card shows Grand Duke Friedrich II of Baden (1857-1928) with his wife Hilda Princess of Luxemburg (1864-1952) and his mother-in-law Grand Duchess Adelheid of Luxembourg, née Pss of Anhalt (1833-1916) with her four oldest granddaughters - the Princesses Marie Adelheid, Charlotte, Hilda and Antonia of Luxembourg arriving at Weilburg/Lahn where they attended the unveiling of a statue of Grand Duke Adolph of Luxembourg, Duke of Nassau (1817-1905 ... Grand Duke Friedrich’s father-in-law) on August 21, 1907.

Four days later Grand Duke Friedrich sent this photo to his mother (Grand Duchess Luise of Baden). A rough translation is: Königstein, 25.VIII.07. Heartfelt thanks for the lovely letter yesterday and today's telegram. Here is a picture of our welcome at the Lahn bridge in Weilburg. Mother-in-law, Hilda and I welcomed Eitel Fritzens yesterday in Homburg, where it was very nice. Cordial greetings, F." Eitel Fritzens is Prinz Eitel Friedrich of Prussia, one of the Kaiser’s sons.
 
WOW! :o I can't believe no one else has any comments about this card after six days. I thought it was a pretty impressive thing, but perhaps not. :P

I read this when first posted, but somehow neglected to comment. The card was lost in the shuffle, I suppose. I know I find it impressive.

I am further impressed by your ability to decipher pre-Sütterlinschrift. Other than a few capitals and consonants, I find it virtually impossible to read. Congratulations, and thanks for sharing.

I'm afraid I'm as pre-Sütterlinschrift-handicapped as most everyone else, so I can't take any credit! The seller posted the text of the card in German and I simply translated the modern text into English! :D I only recognize a few words on the actual postcard.
