A shelf full of chell casings. That would make a nice display as well I think.

I saw that one too, at Catawiki, but, since I already own 3, didn't proceed on it. I do like shell casings though.

This is mine—one that eventually ended up as a sort of trophy to display next to the fireplace...ha, ha...even with devil faces on the site...

And so do I! The one I bought years ago, has 2 Lions heads on it, with the handles in their mouth's. Trench art from Belgium.
Bought years ago at a fleamarket in Ypres. The 2 I bought recently are genuine ones. So, like they were used those day's. No frills, just the way they were.

Congratulations that has to be one of the best if not the best uses of an old shell ever and hear I thought using one of my old large shells as an umbrella stand was cool. Those devil heads and feel are just incredible.

Well my friends, the 2 21cm morser shell casings are now home to a cactus and a succelent plant, in Dutch language called vetplant.
The one with the handles attached to it also has a new job, its now houses several bayonets I had kept in my collection room upstairs.
S98-05's, the later shorter version, also one with sawback, some ersatz versions and the remains of a Gewehr 98, which I found near a field where a farmer was busy ploughing his field. He just put it near the road, and I took it home with me.
I also have a big part of a german grabenschild in my collection room upstairs, also found near a farmers field. It has a bullethole in it, the loophole is still present. But it is not complete though. The things you can still find, after so many years is mindblowing. (apart from all the unexploded ordnance, but I don't touch those. They are still dangerous ).

I was wondering by the way, there is no battle field finds topic yet. Is there any interest in such a topic?
If so, I guess there will be more members, who visit the battle fields and have lots to share.
I for sure do, as I regularly visit the fields around Ypres, and have a collection of those too. Inert fuzes from artillery shells, screw pickets from barbed wire systems (starting at the smallest one, to the largest example), and more. Shrapnell balls, a british canteen, that is, the remains of one.(there is now a very large industrial site there, right opposite the Yorkshire trench and dugout site, thats were I found the british canteen). A German medical bottle, found near Hooge chateau, where they were emptying a small bunker, which is open now, in the pile of ground which they got out of that bunker, it was just laying there op top. I got permission to take it with me. Nowaday's a well visited site by the way, because of the minecraters there. It was fought over and over several times.
