Thanks for this posting, one of my "pipe" dreams would be to be able to see the Bannerman store on Broadway, say around 1930 or so wow, what a pile. Although any time would have been great to see. I remember the Bannerman family advertising signal flags from Dewey's flagship the Olympia in the Shotgun News in the late 1970's. Could'a, would'a, should'a.

It's also interesting to read the comments people have made regarding the story. Most have no clue what the island was all about, and most could care less. Although much of the poor condition of the structure can be blamed on the inferior quality cement Bannerman used. He bought it on the cheap and here's the result. Rebar was surplus Civil War musket barrels. Great stuff. Wouldn't be surprised if a fair number of us have treasures in our collections that once were sold by Bannnerman's.
