Hi guys,

I'm new here and wanted to share some of my pictures with you that depict some interesting helmets, etc., at least i.m.o..

The first one (+close-up) shows men of various units at a Lazarett, including some Husars, both fieldgrey and colored Atillas can be seen. Note the KD89 with correct brown leather Faustriemen in Russian style. The Husar with a Kar88 or maybe Gew91 on his back has an interesting Pelzmütze with Überzug, but his gilt chinstrap is worn above instead of below. I wanted to share this helmet with you guys as all the other Busbies with covers I have seen are completely covered.

The one below (+ close-up) seem to be of a Cavalry unit at Truppe Übungzplatz Elsenborn. I used the plates on Kaisersbunker and narrowed the unit down either the Garde-Dragoner-Regiment (1. Großherzoglich Hessisches) Nr.23 or possibly the Kürassier-Regiment Königin (Pommersches) Nr.2.
Interesting items are the Lances (Stahlrohrlanze) stacked to the barracks, Kar98s on the stand, KD89s below the table. The soldier cleaning his waffenrock clearly shows the Schutzensnurr, the shoulder pad is marked L below a crown.

3th and last for today is a bit of a funny one, I added it to this post because some of the kids are wearing an Atilla. Any thoughts on the helmets...? Are they 'real' or toys? If they're for children, they're pretty detailed, but I've seen equally detailed ones on smaller children. These are mainly guard or reserve officers so it seems.

PW, happy to see you are here also, welcome to a great forum, Brian has done a marvalous job and you are going to enjoy it immensely. The Husar is armed with a Kar 88, as I see no stacking hook. That is the only real difference between the Kar 88 and Gew 91. The fellows armed with the Gewehr 88's at right & left have an S71 bayonet at right, and a S71/84 at left.

The second photo looks like the shoulderboards of the Dragoner Regt. 23, a Garde Korps Regt. Bottem right I would have expected Kar 88 carbines, but there appears to be stacking hooks on at least three. The knob at the ends of the hooks are visible.

All three are nice, I like the kids also, are they in an orphanage I wonder?

Thanks for joining us Sam, I'm sure there are many here who'll appreciate your knowledge of those 'other pointy things' - bayonets! :D

Thanks for the welcome George, Brett. Of course I'd be happy to help out whenever I can, but I do think I will be learning the most myself, rather than educating. Coming here will hopefully also bring me a step closer to acquiring a helmet that matches one of my regimentally marked pieces.

Thanks for the confirmation on the Hessian Dragoons, interesting unit I must say. I wasn't completely sure yet as the 2. K.R. has shoulder pads which are rather similar.

Guys,

That's the strap of the Hessian dragoons...white crown and "L" on a red strap. The Kürassier Rgt. Nr. 2 had a white strap with red crown and "L" and red piping. The dragoon regiment wore collar Litzen, like the one guy in the Litewka. The Kürassier regiment had no collar Litzen.

Regards,
Chip
