That spike looks like gold painted wood!
 
You are correct MAX as far as I am concerned. I am wondering also about the Baden OR kokarde. Whats up with that?? A very good example though, of the mid to late war officer helme with 98% zinc fittings that used to be gold washed and the extremely thin liner.
 
I think that is the rare Munchkin spike, only worn on helmets from Munchkinland, not to be confussed with München.
