This helmet doesn't seem to have a had a spine attached to it.
There's no "ghost" outline of it and no attaching or vent holes that I can see.
:-k

That is odd. No rear spine. With that 1918 date, it must be a M15 Friedens-Uniformen (Peacetime uniform) Pickelhaube. However, I thought these were made the same as the M95? That no rear spine is very confusing, but no-doubt that is an original. Shame the rear visor is gone.

If you look closely at one of the 'rear' photos, it looks like there was a hole that was repaired (too low for a rear spine). Is it possible that this was a fireman's helmet that was re-lacquered and used by a veteran? In which case, maybe no rear spine was available??????

Just a thought...

Hey Ron,

Interesting. But I can't see any additional holes further up on the inside for a fireman's comb. If it was re-lacquered, they did a great job, would have had to sand the exterior downs and re finish it. Too bad about the rear visor, may have been easier to figure out

Keith

Almost impossible to get rid of the indents in the shell produced by a fireman comb, and not worth the effort. Never seen the ink stamp on the tongue either. Too bad it is blurred.
