I recently acquired an 1846 helmet but need to replace eight missing chin scales. I have cut them before from K&S sheet brass (the color matches well) but can no longer remember what gauge I used. Does anyone have a recommendation?
Update: I went to an Auto parts store and bought a feeler gauge. After comparison to the existing chin scales I order the K&S .025 gauge brass because it has the same yellow appearance. I also ordered a disk sheet metal-wire gauge on Amazon so I don't run into this conundrum again.
